Police say toddler shot by father (Denver, Colorado)

Dad WILLIAM THALLEY has been charged with shooting his 3-year-old son in the leg. Mom has been charged with "accessory after the fact"--basically for dutifully backing up Dad's cockamamie story about an attack by a stranger.

DENVER - Police said late Sunday night the father of a 3-year-old boy shot him in the leg earlier in the evening, not a stranger as the boy's parents initially told police.

9NEWS first reported on 9NEWS at 10 the boy was shot around 7:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Morrison Road and Lowell Blvd.

While the boy was at St. Anthony Central, the boy's parents told Denver Police officers an unknown Hispanic man shot their boy near the intersection. Later, police determined the boy's father, William Thalley, 29, was the the one who shot him, in their home at 3477 West Alaska Place in Denver.

Denver Police arrested Thalley for child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and the boy's mother, Nicole Fernandez, for accessory to child abuse after the fact.

The boy is in serious condition at the hospital.
