A Cunupia electrician was yesterday sentenced to seven years in jail for having sex with his daughter ten years ago.

The prisoner, 47, was found guilty last Thursday but sentence was handed down yesterday by Justice Rajiv Persad in the Port-of-Spain Sixth Criminal Court. The prosecution led evidence that on October 15, 1999, the victim went to visit her father at his home. She had gone to ask her father for money but he instead made advances towards her. And after fondling her, he forced her to perform oral sex on him. He in turn performed oral sex on her before proceeding to have intercourse with her.

Her mother remained ignorant of the incident until the teen told her about it in March 2000. It was then reported to the police and investigated by Inspector Dennis Housend.
