Custodial dad, roommate charged with sodomizing son (Bushnell, Florida)

Does somebody want to explain to me how or why a marijuana-growing, sexual abusive father living with a male "roommate" (boyfriend?) has custody of his two sons? And how did he get custody when he had a suspended drivers license for a previous failure to pay child support?

Dad CHARLES COLEMAN has been charged with sexual battery, cultivation of marijuana, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Both Daddy and the roommate are charged with sodomizing the 10-year-old son. The roommate is also charged with having oral sex on the 7-year-old son.

Mom got to find out about the abuse during her visitation time, after her son told her about it. How sweet. Think she'll get custody back now? Who knows? This is Florida, man.

BUSHNELL -- A father and the man who lives with him and his children are charged with sodomizing the father's 10-year-old son, Sumter County sheriff's officials said.

Charles Coleman, 33, of Bushnell, was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery on a person less than 12, cultivation of marijuana and driving with a suspended or revoked license, said Lt. Kevin Hofecker.

A man who lived with Coleman and his children, Anthony Shelt, 44, was also charged with two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 and one county of cultivation of marijuana, detectives said Thursday. The second sexual battery count against Shelt stems from allegedly having oral sex on Coleman's 7-year-old son, deputies said.

While visiting his mother in Citrus County, the 10-year-old son told her about the sexual assaults, detectives said. The incidents were reported to Citrus County sheriff's investigators on July 15, then referred to Sumter County detectives the next day, Hofecker said.
Investigators interviewed the boy at Jessie's Place, a child advocacy center in Citrus County. The boy detailed being sodomized by this father at least once at their Bushnell home, Hofecker said.

Detectives found Coleman driving on County Road 575. They discovered his driver's license was suspended for failing to pay child support. Then, at Coleman's home, investigators found a 5-foot-tall marijuana plant growing on the front porch. They arrested Coleman at home and Shelt nearby.

In an interview later with investigators, Coleman admitted to sodomizing his son, Hofecker said. Both he and Shelt are being held at the Sumter County jail without bond.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office victim advocate is coordinating serves being provided to the alleged victim and his family, Hofecker said.
