Custodial dad, step indicted in death of 3-year-old girl; media confuses the issue by referring to "couple" (Logan County, Colorado)

Once again, the media confuses the issue by referring to the alleged perpetrators as "a couple," which suggests that the biological parents killed this child. In fact, the mother is not in the picture at all. In addition, it is clear that Daddy must have been custodial, since the abuse occurred over a period of 10 months before the 3-year-old girl finally died.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT: So what happened to this child's mother? Is she alive back in California? Or "disappeared" or dead? How did this father get custody/possession of this little girl anyway? Anybody want to get the back story here?

The biological father and stepmother of a 3-year-old girl from Logan County have been indicted on counts of first-degree murder and child abuse.

The child, Alexis Rose McClain, was taken to Sterling Regional Medical Center on July 8 suffering from critical injuries, according to the Logan County Sheriff's Office. She was transferred to Children's Hospital and died the next day.

Ginger Weeks, 34, and Mark Weeks, 27, are being held at the Logan County Detention Center, Sterling, without bail.

Monday's indictment alleges that the injuries suffered by the child occurred over the course of nearly 10 months — between October 2009 and early July.

Lt. Joseph McBride of the Logan County Sheriff's Office said Ginger Weeks and Mark Weeks lived in California before coming to Colorado.
