Dad accused of abusing 3-month-old daughter; says he shook baby because he has "sensitive ears" (Guthrie, Oklahoma)

Dad ROLAND OVERBY is really not a bad father! He's just highly evolved with an exquisitely refined sensibility! He's a delicate artiste and aesthete! That's why he "allegedly" battered his 3-month-old daughter, leaving her with fractured ribs, bruises, and lung damage. His "sensitive ears" just couldn't take it!

Oh my gawd. I've finally heard a new excuse for child abuse; I have to admit that it's been a while. "Sensitive ears"? Pass the barf bag.

GUTHRIE, Okla. -- An Oklahoma is man accused of severely abusing his 3-month-old daughter. Investigators in Guthrie arrested 24-year-old Roland Overby.

His family says he moved to Logan County about four months ago to be with the mother of his child, but Tuesday Logan County prosecutors charged Overby with the abuse of his 3-month-old daughter.

"He admitted to doing it," the baby's grandmother said. "He's already confessed to it all."

Overby and the child's mother lived in a mobile home next to the child's grandparents.

The grandparents did not have much to say, but court documents share a lot about the abuse authorities say the baby suffered.

Records say the baby's mother took her to the hospital "for nausea and coughing."

After the baby left the hospital, hospital officials noticed the child had four broken ribs, "contusions on her lungs" and "bruises around the waist."

That's when authorities got involved.

"DHS asked for our assistance in taking the child into custody," Logan County Deputy Chief Rob Groseclose said. "We then arrested the father of that child, and we took him into our custody for the abuse of the child."

Investigators say Overby gave them several versions of what might have happened.

Court documents show he told authorities, "That when he reached over for his spit cup the baby rolled out and hit her head against a refrigerator."

Records also state Overly became agitated and shook baby because "he has sensitive ears."

DHS took the baby to Children's Hospital where she was in ICU and later released into DHS custody.

"It's all a mess and a nightmare," the baby's grandmother said.

The child's mother has not been charged.

"I don't want this in the news," Michaela Hashford. "So, no comment."

The Logan County District Attorneys office is looking into whether the hospital reported the abuse in a timely manner.
