Dad leads deputies on 16 mile chase--with 11-month-old child in car (Sunbury, Ohio)

In the process of finding interesting articles for Dastardly Dads, I have found that there are a lot of daddies who apparently cut their teeth on 2 Fast, 2 Furious and the like. So when the police try to pull them over, they dutifully make a run for it--even when they have babies or young children in the car. Just like this daddy here, who is indentified as BRIAN BYERS.

Note that the child was placed in the custody of an unidentified "relative." Not the mother. Why?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

SUNBURY, Ohio --
A father is arrested after leading deputies on a chase for more than 15 miles Friday evening.

Authorities said in a release Friday night that at 6:41 p.m., in the 700 block of West Cherry Street in Sunbury, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy witnessed a vehicle following too close to another vehicle. The Deputy attempted to pull over the Chrysler Cirrus but the driver failed to stop, leading Deputies on a pursuit that covered approximately 16 miles. In the 3300 block of State Route 521 deputies deployed stop sticks in order to disable to vehicle’s tires. The car continued on to the 1200 block of Route 521.

Officials said the driver exited the vehicle and ran, resulting in a foot pursuit. He was apprehended after running approximately 500 yards.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver as 27-year-old Brian Byers of Galion. Deputies discovered an 11-month-old child was in the vehicle with Byers. The child was not injured and was released into the custody of a relative. Byers faces charges of felony fleeing and child endangering.

This is the second pursuit in Delaware County in one week.
