It was Monday afternoon when police were called to a hospital emergency room in Great Falls. A three-month-old girl had a broken leg and a healing fractured rib and had stopped breathing twice.

Tuesday her father was accused of causing those injuries and is facing criminal charges, thirty-two year-old Travis Galloway is charged with two felonies: assault on a minor and criminal endangerment.

Galloway admitted during a police interview that he lost his temper while watching his daughter Monday, and pushed and twisted her legs because she was being “fussy” and crying.

Galloway told investigators he was watching his 18-month-old son and three-month old daughter while their mother, who is also his girlfriend, was at work.

He first claimed the boy had jumped off the back of a couch and landed on the baby, causing her broken rib and leg.

Galloway then changed his story telling officers the baby was injured when he pulled her arms after she nearly rolled off the couch.

Eventually Galloway said he straightened, then bent her legs thinking she was “gassy” and that he was frustrated and lost his temper.

He also later admitted that he “accidentally” squeezed the child early last month causing her to “yelp” which may have caused her broken rib.

Casade County Attorney John Parker has prosecuted a number of child abuse cases. Monday, he weighed in on the case.

“Clearly this has just been a tragic year for children in Great Falls,” Parker said. “There’s been just a terrible number of child abuse cases this year and members of the public ask me every week ‘what’s going on?’ and that’s not clear. But it’s clear members of the public are very frustrated with this situation and very troubled by the situation.”

Again Galloway has been charged with assault on a minor and criminal endangerment.

Galloway's bail is set at $100,000.
