Dad, convicted of abusing 3-week-old infant in 2008, gets joint custody of 4-week-old daughter; Dad now charged with inflicting closed head injury, breaking bones of daughter (Zeeland Township, Michigan)

Check this out.
Dad RYAN VICTOR KUPRES was CONVICTED of abusing his 3-week-old infant in 2008.
Daddy then goes on to what is presumably a new relationship.
Even though this relationship apparently doesn't survive the pregnancy, Daddy gets JOINT CUSTODY.
EVEN WITH HIS HISTORY OF CHILD ABUSE.
EVEN WITH HIS LACK OF COMMITMENT TO THE MOTHER OR THEIR NEW FAMILY.
So of  course, he "allegedly" bashes the new baby at 4-weeks of age, injuring her head and breaking her bones.
And even though Daddy pulled this crap on his own, apparently during his (court-ordered?) "parenting time," Mom still lost custody of the baby to CPS and foster care.

Father, convicted of child abuse in 2008, arrested again for allegedly injuring 4-month-old

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, MI -- Police have arrested the father of a Zeeland-area baby who they say was abused - suffering a closed head injury and broken bones - when she was 4-months-old.

Ryan Victor Kupres, 28, of Wyoming, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 21, and charged with first-degree child abuse and for being a habitual offender based on a 2008 conviction for abusing another child in 2008.

The child, Layla Kupres, was taken to Zeeland Community Hospital in late March with serious injuries. Police said she was vomiting and suffering from flu-like symptoms when her parents, Kupres and Jessica Jones, brought her in.

She was later transferred to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, where doctors discovered the closed head injury and multiple fractures on her extremities, police said.

Layla remained in treatment for an extended period of time and has since been placed in foster care, police said.

The child was staying at her mother’s Zeeland residence on Stephanie Jo Lane when the incident occurred. The parents are divorced, but had joint custody at the time, Lt. Mark Bennett said in April.

Kupres earlier was convicted of first-degree child abuse for injuries in 2008 to a 3-week-old infant. That baby, which also is his child, has recovered.

Kupres is held on $15,000 cash bond. The scheduling of future court dates is pending, and the case remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
