CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman and young girl are found murdered in a Northwest Side home Sunday. The victims were discovered in a home in the 3400 block of North Odell after the man, believed to be the woman's husband and the child's father, was arrested in far north suburban Waukegan.

Dunning neighborhood residents were out all Sunday night, still in disbelief that a man could allegedly kill his own 7-year-old daughter. Not all family members were killed. The man did flee to Waukegan with his 2-year-old daughter, who is now with relatives.

Chicago Police detectives spent much of the day inside the first floor of the two-unit Northwest Side home. Detectives also made their way up to Waukegan, where police in the northern suburb received a 9-1-1 call Sunday morning about a suicidal man who told his father he had just killed his family members in Chicago.

After a wellbeing check, police found a woman and a 7-year-old girl murdered.

Speaking through an interpreter, the suspect and the victim's Polish-speaking landlord, who lives in the basement of the home, talked about what he heard Saturday night.

"If I heard any screaming or yelling I would call police right away," Antoni Panek said. "If I heard anything, it was a thump."

Panek says the thump sounded like a chair falling. He says the man, woman and two children were his tenants for the past six years. While Panek did not hear screaming Saturday night, he says the couple was known to fight with each other and at him.

"The couple argued a lot and whenever he made a comment they would attack him," Panek said.

Neighbors say they also heard arguments in the past.

"We have heard them argue," neighbor Patti Witucki said. "I know a couple times there police were here for a domestic, but nothing on this level."

Along with the adult female and the 7-year-old girl, the family's pets, a dog and cat, were also killed. The suspect fled to Waukegan with his 2-year-old daughter. Police found the man in his father's backyard with a knife to his throat. After shooting him twice with a stun gun, the suspect dropped the knife and was taken into custody.

Back in the Northwest neighborhood, neighbors remain in shock, especially since they just saw the suspect and his family taking a stroll around the block Saturday afternoon.

"Who kills their little own daughter? I just feel sick and like I want to cry," Witucki said.

Neighbors said the neighborhood has always been known as a very safe and quiet area.

The Medical Examiner has not released the names of the victims and the suspect is still in custody in Waukegan.
