A father has been charged with child abuse involving an allegation he abused his 6-year-old child with a cord, authorities alleged Thursday.

Christopher Raynard Jarvis, 30, of 138 Oak Hill Drive, was arrested Wednesday under the charge of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury. He was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

Capt. Robby Rummage of the Lexington Police Department said his agency received a report regarding the allegations Oct. 20, 2014. The captain explained the incident occurred at Jarvis' residence, according to an arrest report.

Rummage stated in an email to The Dispatch the child victim sustained injuries to his back from a cord. He said he could not specify what kind of cord was allegedly used. #An arrest warrant stated the child sustained off-color scar tissue to the trunk area. The incident occurred between April 25 and Oct. 20 of last year, according to an arrest warrant.

Rummage declined to comment on whether the child was in the custody of the Davidson County Department of Social Services. #Jarvis is scheduled to appear Jan. 13 in court.
