Dad convicted of 2nd-degree murder in beating death of 19-month-old son during visitation; sentenced to 25 years to live (Orange County, California)

Parents obviously not together, but not clear if father's access was court-ordered. Even in cases where the courts were not involved, mothers are under enormous pressure to "include" the father, even if he is a violent scumbag.

Dad is identified as JESUS VEGA ESTRADA.

This account from November reports that the parents had conflicts about child support, so yes, it appears that the father's access was court-ordered.

An Orange County man was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in state prison for the beating death of his 19-month-old son.

Jesus Vega Estrada, 45, was convicted Nov. 14 of second-degree murder and assault on a child causing death.

During a visit with his son in Valinda on Nov. 27, 2013, Estrada told the boy’s mother that he was going to take the toddler to buy some juice and candy about 11:15 p.m., according to Deputy District Attorney Michael Matoba.

The boy was vomiting when the two returned. His parents took him to a hospital, where he died early the next morning, according to the prosecutor.

Coroner’s officials testified that the boy died from blunt force trauma to the liver and had trauma to his head, broken ribs and bruises. — City News Service
