Dad babysits for only 10 minutes, and "allegedly" managed to fracture skull of 4-month-old daughter and kill her (Orlando, Florida)

Dad is identified as HERBERTO MONTES-RAMOS. Notice the healing rib fractures. This wasn't the first time Daddy abused the baby.

It took less than ten minutes for this piece of sh** to go from zero to full throttle on a baby. Too many of these dudes just have no impulse control at all.

"Please forgive me," the 18-year-old father said in Spanish. "Our child is dead." Their daughter, four-month-old Mia Valentina Montes Balleste was lying on a bed, her skin turning blue, her aunt told Orange County deputies.

The infant had two brain hemorrhages and a fracture on the back of her skull, court records show.

Mia's mother picked her up and tried to perform mouth-to-mouth. She rushed her to Orange County Fire Station 72 on South Conway Road, then to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Mia died three days later, on Jan. 27 at 1:32 p.m.

Montes-Ramos, 18, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, court records show.

In the days after his daughter was injured, he told deputy sheriffs that Mia accidentally fell from her pink bouncy chair. He was charged with child neglect.

But Mia's injuries did not look like they were from an accidental fall, court records show. Physical evidence suggested she might have been shaken to death, records show.

Conflicting evidence

Mia's mother and aunt left the house in southeast Orange County at about 3:30 p.m. Jan. 24, records show.

They were only gone for about 10 minutes, running an errand at an Amscot on South Semoran Boulevard.

They left Montes-Ramos to watch Mia, who was napping, and her 22-month-old brother.

Montes-Ramos told deputies Mia woke up and he put her in a bouncy chair on top of a 1-foot-high table. Her brother was rocking the infant in the chair, he said.

Montes-Ramos said he turned around for a moment to pick up a toy. Then he heard a loud crash
Mia's brother, he said, tipped the chair over, and the infant was laying face-down on the floor.

But deputies, hospital personnel and the Orange-Osceola medical examiner's office questioned parts of his story.

Mia's brother probably wasn't strong enough to push his sister and her chair off the table, officials said.

And Mia's injuries did not fit with that sort of fall. She had a fracture in the back of her head, not the front, two brain hemorrhages and two broken ribs that were healing, court records show.

The injuries, a nurse at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children told deputy sheriffs, were "classic" signs of a baby that was shaken to death, records show.

The Department of Children and Families had no prior history with the family, but is now investigating Mia's death, spokeswoman Kristi Gray said.

Montes-Ramos is being held in Orange County Jail. His trial is scheduled for May 26, two days before his 19th birthday.
